In the calculation of the water volume in fire suppression tanks, the fire protection codes and the design codes for oil depots specify different times for water replenishment, and there is a significant difference between them. Although refinery projects do not follow the standards for oil depots, I personally think that the required water flow rate is too high. What are everyone’s opinions?
Article 1.0.3 of the Building Fire Protection Code states that where there are specialized codes, those should be followed.
After all, a refinery is not a oil storage tank, so it’s better to design fire ponds in accordance with industry standards.
Code for Fire Protection Design of Petrochemical Enterprises, Article 7.3.2: Petrochemical enterprises should have fire water tanks, which shall comply with the following requirements: 1. The capacity of the tanks shall meet the total demand for fire-fighting water during the duration of a fire. When it is ensured that water can be continuously supplied to the pool in case of a fire, its capacity can be reduced by the amount of water added during the duration of the fire ; II. When the capacity of the tank is 1000 m3 or less, it may not require separation; when it exceeds 1000 m3, it should be divided into two sections, with connecting pipes equipped with valves ; III. The time required to refill the water tank should not exceed 48 hours ; IV. When the fire water tank is built together with the plant’s domestic or production safety water tanks, technical measures should be in place to ensure that the fire water is not used for other purposes ; V. Frost protection measures should be implemented in cold regions.
