I’ve been working on the design of a formaldehyde storage tank recently; its volume is around 120 cubic meters. I’m not sure what requirements apply. Who has a schematic diagram of a formaldehyde tank? Posted here for reference, hehe
Design requirements: Formaldehyde is a highly toxic substance; if it is classified as Category 3, then there are many requirements for the storage tanks: 1. The materials must be retested; 2. The materials must undergo ultrasonic testing; 3. Welded flanges should be used, with a nominal pressure of not less than 1.6 MPa, and the flanges must be made from grade III forgings; 4. 100% non-destructive testing is required; 5. Overall heat treatment is necessary; 6. A gas-tightness test must also be conducted.
I think that for a volume of 120 cubic meters, the design pressure is usually expressed in KPa; it isn’t a pressure vessel, so the design should follow the standards for large storage tanks. Otherwise, the calculated values for things like wall thickness will be very high. It’s best to specify the operating conditions as well
Commonly used components include: feed inlet, discharge outlet, spraying nozzles on the tank top and walls (these may not be necessary for flammable materials), level gauge port, vent valve port, safety valve port, oil measurement port, light-transmitting port, 2–3 manholes, steam inlet and outlet (if heat tracing is required), differential pressure level gauge port, foam fire suppression port, thermometer port, expansion port, drain port, etc. There are also components that require confirmation by various specialized teams, as process requirements may apply. or other specialties, etc
