Dear teachers, I am currently working on the design of safety facilities for a project. This project includes a 25 m3 liquid ammonia storage tank (horizontal, with a fixed diameter of 2.4 m) and an 10 L alcohol storage tank (above ground, with a fixed diameter of 2.6 m). 1. If the liquid ammonia is treated as a flammable liquid of Category B and ethanol as a liquid of Category A, then according to Table 4.2.2 of standard 50016-2006, which specifies the fire separation distances between tanks of different categories, the distance required for above-ground tanks is 0.75D; that is, 0.75*2.6 = 1.95 meters. For horizontal tanks, the required distance is not less than 0.8 meters. As I understand it, the fire separation distance between liquid ammonia storage tanks and alcohol storage tanks is 1.95 meters. 2. If liquid ammonia is considered a combustible gas, then Table 4.3.1 specifies that the fire separation distance between such combustible gases and buildings or storage tanks should be 20 meters in the case of Class A liquid storage tanks. As I understand it, the fire separation distance between the liquid ammonia tank and the alcohol tank is 20 meters. So, what should be the fire separation distance between the liquid ammonia tank and the alcohol tank? The spacing between liquid ammonia tanks can be arranged in accordance with the requirements for liquefied hydrocarbon storage tanks. We have always followed this principle in our design.
