Firstly, such technologies have specific requirements regarding the quality of coal, and they must be built in areas with abundant coal resources. Moreover, these plants consume a large amount of water, so it is necessary to consider whether there are any water sources available in the surrounding area； The one-time investment required for such enterprises is also extremely high; in the short term, they lack the necessary foundational talent as well ； International energy price fluctuations, among other things, are also factors that constrain it.
Are there any special requirements for coal? Direct liquefaction can also be put this way; for indirect liquefaction, one just needs to choose a gasification furnace. What industry doesn’t use water? Isn’t the goal of building a factory to locate it in the most suitable place? In China, coal-to-oil is a necessary path. What restricts our development is the shortage of oil.
