I recently learned about a technology that uses dry-sorption low-temperature geothermal energy to drive screw generators for power generation. Are there any manufacturers that actually use this technology?
What is the efficiency of a screw generator? What are the advantages compared to turbines?
The utilization of low-temperature geothermal energy is currently very limited, and there are few products available; if any do exist, their prices are quite high. Plants with a sulfuric acid production capacity of less than 300,000 tons per year certainly do not use this technology. The dry absorption temperature is generally below 90°C, which makes it difficult to use this method. Moreover, the dry absorption section in sulfuric acid plants is prone to problems, with a high likelihood of leaks; therefore, there are still many issues that need to be addressed when using low temperatures.
At present, the Americans are still the most advanced in terms of technology for recovering low-temperature thermal energy through dry absorption using sulfuric acid.
A few days ago, my company inspected domestic low-temperature recovery units: one set designed for a capacity of 300,000 tons, along with a pilot-scale unit. On the surface and from what was described to me, they seemed quite good; of course, American products are still the best, but their prices are too high, and the time required to recover the investment is too long – small-scale operations cannot afford such things.
