Many explanations have been found, such as buffer tank, accumulator tank, surge tank, etc. I’m not sure which one is more professional.
A buffer vessel is used for the gas phase, while a buffer tank is used for the liquid phase (see the corrections on floor 11). I don’t think it’s classified based on the status of the materials. Because in the drawings, the buffer tanks for the liquid phase, slurry, and solid slices can all be referred to as Buffer tank.
The most common one is the buffer tank, but a surge tank is also used occasionally in PSA systems.
We use “buffer vessels”. Our company has many such vessels, with a volume of generally 20 to 30 cubic meters. foreigners (Germans) use the term ‘buffer vessel’.

Sorry, let me correct that – we translate the liquid phase as buffer drum; it seems that “butter tank” is a commonly used term.
We call it a Holding Tank
In our documentation, the acid water buffer tank is referred to as a “sour water surge drum.” So “surge” is probably a more technical term for it.
