In accordance with Article 4.2.3 of the Code for Fire Protection Design of Buildings – 2006, each storage tank arranged in groups shall not exceed 200 cubic meters in volume, and the total volume of all such tanks shall not exceed 1000 cubic meters. If several storage tanks larger than 200 cubic meters are designed, does enclosing each tank with a fire dike mean that they are not considered part of a group and thus are exempt from these constraints? Regarding tank groups, should the storage tanks within the same dike inside the fire dike be considered one tank group, or should those tanks located within the outermost fire dike be counted as one tank group?
The poster’s understanding should be the tank area; the situation inside the building should be one of complete isolation.
A tank group and a tank area are two different concepts. Generally speaking, the scope of a tank area can vary; it can refer to the entire storage and transportation area for tanks, or it can refer to an area dedicated to a specific type of tanks, such as a tank area for crude oil, a tank area for liquefied gas, or a tank area for solvents. And a tank group refers to a set of tanks of the same type within a particular storage area, haha, just my personal suggestion

Tank farm: Generally refers to the assembly of all storage tanks, which may include several groups of tanks. Generally speaking, the scope of a tank area can vary; it can refer to the entire storage and transportation tank area, or it can refer to a tank area dedicated to a specific type of product, such as a crude oil tank area, a liquefied gas tank area, a solvent oil tank area, and so on. The layout of tank groups is subject to the following regulations: 1. Within the same tank group, tanks with the same or similar fire hazard categories should be arranged together; 2. Storage tanks for boiling liquids should not be arranged in the same group as storage tanks for non-boiling liquids ; 3. Storage tanks for liquefied hydrocarbons should not be arranged in the same group as storage tanks for flammable liquids.
The issue related to lz was studied; actually, lz has research experience in building codes. But still, a few words: 1. For Class A and B liquids, the design should call for storage tanks with a capacity of over 200 cubic meters per tank, which does not comply with the building codes. 2. Building a firewall inside the flood control dike only serves as a barrier; it does not change the capacity of the tank cluster. In fact, the building codes have already relaxed these regulations in order to save land use, reduce the number of pipelines, and facilitate management. It is recommended that LZ strictly adhere to the regulations, ensure safe production, and avoid exploiting loopholes in those regulations – safety comes first!
