Operating Procedures for Centrifugal Pumps I. Before starting: 1. Check whether the process is correct. 2. Is the area around the pump clean, with no items that could interfere with its operation? 3. Check whether the screws of the coupling guard, footings, and other components are tight, and look for any signs of looseness. 4. The bearing oil reservoir must contain sufficient lubricating oil, and the oil level should be maintained within the specified range. 5. Select an appropriate pressure gauge based on the pump’s purpose and operating conditions. 6. Pumps equipped with bearing shell cooling water and shaft seal water should maintain unobstructed water flow. 7. Check whether the voltage is within the specified range, and verify that the motor’s wiring and grounding are in good condition. II. Starting the pump: 1. Open the inlet valve of the pump. 2. Open the pump’s vent valve to release the gas inside the pump, then close it. 3. Set the process according to the pump’s purpose, and the pump’s outlet should be closed. 4. Press the start button to start the pump. 5. Verify that the pump is operating normally with no abnormal noises. 6. A slight amount of water drips from the packing, at a rate of 10–30 drops per minute, with no signs of heating. 7. The pump outlet pressure should be within the specified range. 8. The vibration of the pump should not exceed 0.1 millimeters when the rotational speed is 1500 revolutions per minute or less; it should remain at no more than 0.06 millimeters when the rotational speed is above 1500 revolutions per minute. 9. The shaft alignment of the pump shall not exceed 2–4 millimeters (for multi-stage pumps). 10. Once the pump is running properly, open the pump’s outlet valve. III. Operation of the pump: 1. The pressure indication should be stable, with pressure fluctuations remaining within the specified range. 2. There should be no abnormal noises inside the pump casing and the bearing shells; the lubrication should be good, and the oil level should be within the specified range. 3. The motor current should be within the range specified on the nameplate. 4. The cooling water for the bearing bushings and the water seal water should flow smoothly without any leaks, and the dripping from the packing should be normal. 5. Record the relevant data and information on time. IV. Shutting down the pump: 1. Gradually close the outlet valve to stop the motor. 2. After the pump stops running, close the pump’s inlet valve.

Starting the pump – Contact an electrician to supply power – Communicate with operators in relevant positions – Ensure the pump shaft turns smoothly – Close the pump’s outlet valve – Start the motor (if it fails to start, contact maintenance to fix it and repeat the process) – Stop the pump immediately if any of the following occur: abnormal leakage, excessive vibration, unusual odors, abnormal noises, sparks, excessively high bearing temperatures or smoking, or continuously high current levels (P) – Once the pump outlet reaches normal pressure and remains stable – Slowly open the pump’s outlet valve (P) – Ensure that the outlet pressure and motor current are within normal ranges – Inform operators in relevant positions 3. Adjustments and checks after startup (P) – The pump’s vibration is within normal limits (P) – Bearing temperatures are normal (P) – Lubricating oil levels are normal (P) – There is no leakage (P) – Cooling water flow is normal (P) – Motor current is within normal limits (P) – Pump outlet pressure is stable
Before starting the pump, it is generally necessary to manually turn the shaft to ensure there are no abnormalities before starting the motor.
