A tower designed by our company turned out to be very tall after calculations, making it difficult to handle from both the civil engineering and equipment perspective. Now we want to change it into two towers. Is it sufficient to simply divide the tower in half to create two separate towers?

Hehe, how tall is the tower? Actually, there are two methods. One is to replace the trays with more efficient ones, reducing the number of trays and thus the height of the tower. The other method is what you mentioned: constructing two separate towers. This is rather complicated, as adjustments are needed in terms of both the process and the site layout; it’s not as simple as just having two metal tanks. Hehe, it seems that two sets of distillation equipment (reboilers, pumps, air coolers, etc.) will be required. I was previously aware of xylene distillation towers that are nearly 110 meters tall, including the height of their skirt bases. It is said that it dropped to such a high level because an M-type tray imported from the United States was used, haha. The top is indeed very shaky.
Breaking a tower into two sections is indeed very troublesome; there are many factors to take into account. It’s best to do some calculations – pumps and storage tanks are also needed in between…… It’s quite complicated.
Does it have to be this troublesome? Isn’t an Propylene tower for separating gases simply used for that purpose? Can’t the other towers be treated in the same way?
It can be directly separated in the middle to form two towers. I have seen this design many times. But the accompanying equipment and piping need to be installed.
