I’m seeking advice from seniors at the design institute regarding a new department

The job market has remained tough this year. After a long period of hesitation and waiting, a state-owned chemical engineering design institute finally expressed interest in me. However, the position offered was in a newly established department within the institute called the Technology Department (not the Technical Management Department, which is usually responsible for administrative tasks). No detailed information was given regarding the duties of this role; it was only mentioned that I would be responsible for using software to create design models (PDMS software was mentioned) and providing technical support (probably related to the development of engineering drawing software). It was also stated that the salary for this position would be lower than that of positions in the design field. I would like to ask those who have experience working in design institutes or engineering companies about the functions of this Technology Department and the future prospects for this position. Since I had always aimed for positions in the design field, I am aware of the typical career paths in such roles, such as moving into management, procurement, or becoming a design expert. Now I feel quite confused, and I hope those with more experience can offer some guidance. Thank you!
I’d like to add one more thing: I’m a recent undergraduate graduate, and I’ve only heard of PDMS before. One thing is clear though – although the positions in this department do involve creating some 3D diagrams, the main focus isn’t on design or drawing
Our company has such a department. I think it’s good for recently graduated students to learn some new drawing software; it’s a promising path to pursue, as practical, advanced, professional drawing software is essential for design firms when working on large-scale projects.
The current situation for undergraduates is great – it’s excellent to work in a design institute! Especially under this year’s crisis! Even if the salary isn’t high, it’s only temporary; take a look at the strength of this company – if it’s good, go for it!

According to the company, this department should be a software technical support team; it needs young people with some knowledge of computers, whose main tasks are to maintain software, develop new functions for it, and address any issues related to the software
