About low-pressure butyl octanol (LP OxoSM) technology Low-pressure butyl octanol technology is a low-pressure carbonyl process that uses propylene and synthesis gas (a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) to produce n- and isobutyraldehyde. These butyraldehydes are then converted into octanol and n- and isobutanol. Butanol is used as a solvent in coatings and adhesives, and octanol is used as a plasticizer for PVC. For more than 30 years, Davy Process Technologies and Union Carbide have jointly marketed low-pressure butanol technology and provided technology transfer and services.
