Why do centrifugal pumps always damage the inner bearings?
The axial force generated by the impeller thrust causes damage to the inner bearing :)
In the case of multi-stage pumps, it’s due to an excessively small gap in the balance disk
The problem needs to be described clearly. For example, what kind of centrifugal pump, the medium, temperature, and others. Is the seal leaking? Is it possible for the sealed cooling water to leak into the bearing housing? How is the load? Is the pressure change significant? How is the fit between the bearing and the bearing housing?
The inner bearing experiences excessive inward axial thrust during operation, resulting in frequent damage to the bearing.
What model of bearing is it? If this situation keeps occurring, could one consider replacing it with a bearing that offers better resistance to axial forces?
This is mainly due to the large inward axial thrust exerted on the inner bearing during operation. If the bearing fails too frequently, it is recommended to change the bearing model and opt for one that can withstand axial forces well. Such as angular contact bearings. .
We are using a double-suction pump with a flow rate of 43 cubic meters, a head of 153 M. The diameter of the first-stage impeller is 290 MM and that of the second-stage impeller is 265 MM. The bearing models are 7310DBD and NJ2310. The outlet pressure is 20 kilograms, and the temperature of the fluid ranges from 130 to 140 degrees. We would appreciate any advice from those who have experience in this area.
May I ask which end is the inner bearing of the double-suction pump? If it is on the side near the coupling, alignment may be poor. The double-suction pump bearings I saw are on both sides of the pump body.
