In high-voltage equipment, do the specifications require that glass plate level gauges cannot be used?
I’m not sure about high voltage; it should be allowed, I guess. We used a pressure of 1 MPa and glass sight glasses as well, although it is not high pressure.
In high-pressure operating equipment, glass plate level gauges are used in many applications, such as for the ammonia level in ammonia synthesis, the liquid level in heat exchangers (with a process pressure of around 30 MPa), and the liquid level in copper washing towers. A long time ago, I only knew that such level gauges were available on equipment, but I wasn’t aware whether their use was prohibited by regulations. If the standard does not allow it, which standard is it?
Glass tube level gauges can also be used for high-pressure equipment; in the petroleum and chemical industries, there are high-pressure glass plate level gauges operating at pressures of 10–25 MPa, and I’ve heard of no regulations that prohibit their use
It seems there are no regulations in this regard! Regarding the level gauges used in high-pressure vessels, Article 164 of the Pressure Vessels Regulations states only: Paragraph 2: “The level gauges of high-pressure vessels shall undergo a hydraulic test at a pressure equal to 1.25 times the nominal pressure of the gauge.” Paragraph 7: “Glass plate level gauges shall not be used in mobile pressure vessels.” For reference!
