When the internal pipes in the tower are connected to the equipment nozzles using flat welding flanges, are gaskets required?
Gaskets should be required. Since there is a takeover inside the cylinder, there must be a certain pressure difference between the inside and outside of the cylinder during use; without gasket sealing, this cannot be ensured.
We generally do not use gaskets. The internal pipes in the tower are connected to the interior of the tower and basically do not experience any pressure. These pipes are used to convey materials into the tower, so a slight leakage is not a problem. After some time of operation, this area gets blocked by the medium and leakage stops. Not using gaskets prevents reactions between the gasket material and the medium, which could otherwise have some effect on the composition of the medium.
Gaskets are not necessary, but it is recommended to use them in order to meet the requirements of chemical processing processes effectively
We still included shims in the design; I agree with the view from the 4th floor.
Shims are usually added during design. For things like feed distribution pipes, it doesn’t matter if no gaskets are used.
