Dear marine industry professionals, I have worked on an international engineering project where the client required a constructability analysis to be carried out during the design phase, before construction even began. Has anyone experienced this? What is the procedure for constructability analysis? What is the content and purpose? Thank you
Some property owners in our country also make such requests, especially regarding things that they consider to be new. It mainly explains what machinery, roads, water and electricity facilities will be used, what plans will be adopted, as well as the layout of water, electricity, and gas, to show that construction is feasible. If you think about it carefully, you’ll see whether construction is possible. Similar to the construction organization design. But nowadays, some construction organization plans in China are written in such a general manner that they are becoming increasingly uninteresting. The above are my personal opinions. I believe it is very necessary to invite technical personnel from the design institute and several construction companies to discuss a feasibility analysis of the construction before starting work. For example, aspects such as the design of lifting lugs for lifting large equipment, the location of lifting points, and the positioning of lifting stations can be discussed.

I think it mainly involves developing a plan for the construction of large-scale equipment, analyzing the feasibility of its design. If the design is not feasible for construction, then modifications to the design are necessary.
Constructibility analysis is similar to the construction organization design used in China, but it places more emphasis on risk identification and mitigation. I believe its main purpose is to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of the project and the construction process, as well as the construction resources, and to provide recommendations.
