The corrosion rate of conventional materials can be found in various manuals, which can serve as a reference for design purposes. However, the corrosion rate of specific materials must be determined through testing. The design margin for corrosion is calculated as the uniform corrosion rate multiplied by the design life; if pitting corrosion is a possibility for the material, an additional margin should be applied.
