There are melting furnaces that use coal, oil, gas, and electric heating. Some stoves have chimneys, while some do not. Square furnaces (rectangular furnaces) are commonly used, while more advanced ones are circular; some circular furnaces can be tilted to pour molten aluminum. In terms of tonnage, there are melting aluminum furnaces with capacities of 1 ton, 2 tons, 5 tons, 10 tons, 25 tons, and 50 tons. A more advanced version includes an additional holding furnace below the aluminum melting furnace. This holding furnace is designed specifically for processing 6063 alloy; it is used for removing impurities and gases, as well as for allowing the material to settle, before the aluminum bars are cast for use in extrusion processes. The quality of the alloys produced in traditional coal-fired furnaces and those in modern circular furnaces is absolutely different. A regular furnace, regardless of the fuel it uses, should have a chimney, through which most of the waste gases and residues generated during combustion can be expelled. If there are no flue gases or waste residues, all of them are melted into the aluminum melt; thus, aluminum bars for extrusion are produced with severe slag inclusions and bubbles inside. This is one of the reasons for the poor quality of such aluminum, and it is also one of the reasons why aluminum is inexpensive.
