The gasket for the flange DN1100PN6.4 of a container (DP48bar) within the unit is designed as a custom wound gasket (in JB/T4705, wound gaskets of PN6.4 are only available in DN800 size for DN1100). The dimensions are based on the MF sealing surface. During the airtightness testing, the seal wasn’t tight enough; today everything was taken apart and a torque wrench was used to reach 2900 NM (for M42), but it was still not sufficient. Use the big hammer – that should do it. The question is: Is it appropriate to use non-standard gasketing for large-sized flanges? What type of gasket is used for this situation in the ASME pressure vessel standards?
It is recommended to use metal-clad gaskets.
No problem; refer to HG20610-97 (Wound gaskets for steel pipe flanges). Pressure grades: PN1.6Mpa, PN2.5Mpa, PN4.0Mpa, PN6.3Mpa, PN10.0Mpa, PN16.0Mpa. Sealing surface type: A (used for basic tenon-and-mortise surfaces), B (used for internal annular ribbed surfaces), C (used for external annular protruding surfaces), D (used for internal and external annular protruding surfaces).
The container flanges follow the JB/T4705 standard, not the pipeline standard
The gasket itself is usable; it is necessary to check the quality of the gasket, the flatness of the sealing surface, and whether the bolts are tightened symmetrically in a proper manner, or whether the number of bolts is appropriate
These standards and specifications do not prohibit the use of gasketing.
