Some of the storage tanks in our plant have problems with leaks at their purging vents and manhole seals; the usual solution is to tighten the screws, but we are considering replacing the seals as well. Are there any other good ways? It takes a long time to empty a tank with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters once it is filled with oil. Even if a little leaks out each day, the amount adds up to a lot in the end. Share some good experiences related to this; let’s all learn from them!

1. Before sealing the tank, check whether the water marks on the manhole and cleaning holes have been cleaned thoroughly, and ensure that the flange surfaces are flat with no irregularities. 2. Select gaskets of the same specification, and pay attention to their material and thickness. 3. Prepare lead grease before sealing the tank, apply it to both sides of the gasket, and then install the gasket. 4. When tightening, pay attention to tightening diagonally to prevent uneven force distribution that could result in inconsistent gaps between the flanges. 5. During oil collection, strengthen inspections when the liquid level reaches the manholes and cleaning ports; when the liquid level exceeds these openings, maintenance personnel should be requested to perform thermal tightening. :)
It is best not to use rubber gaskets, as they tend to deform over time; asbestos sheets are a good choice, and PTFE sheets are also suitable.
First, use sealant to stop the leak; make sure to clean everything thoroughly before opening it again. Tighten the bolts diagonally, and replace the gaskets whenever they are used once.
