A few days ago, a friend told me that the evaporator at their former workplace exploded; fortunately, it happened in the late night, so no one was injured. The cause was a faulty safety valve on the first effect; since there were no spare parts available at the factory, it was necessary to seal it off using a blind flange. Under normal operating conditions, the pressure in the first stage should not be enough to damage the equipment. It was due to an operational error; with a steam pressure of over ten kilograms and no vacuum applied to counteract that pressure, the equipment couldn’t handle it, and it probably burst under the pressure. It seems that protective measures such as safety valves and rupture disks can’t be used as a makeshift solution!
It is illegal to not use safety protection devices
Regarding the design, manufacturing, installation, use, and maintenance of special equipment, **the Regulations on the Safety Supervision and Administration of Special Equipment stipulate clearly that corresponding qualifications must be obtained. Safety valves and rupture disks, as the final barriers to ensuring the safe use of special equipment, cannot be eliminated. At the same time, regular inspections should be carried out, and any issues found should be repaired or replaced promptly.

Joking aside, if someone dares to seal a safety valve with a blind flange, they should be held legally accountable.
I wonder whether the equipment will meet the standards, or has the operator gone to sleep?
The installation of safety protection devices is intended to prevent situations such as overpressure and overheating that can result from excessive load on the system. It is extremely dangerous if these safety protections are disabled or isolated due to a malfunction! My organization requires a permit to isolate and restore safety devices, which must be signed by the responsible person.
Although no one was injured, the safety valve was sealed with a blind flange; given the severity of the situation, the principle of \"three no’s\" must be applied.
Safety valves can also be handled in this way; it’s really impressive. But from what I know, the safety factor of the products we manufacture is quite high – problems generally don’t occur when it exceeds 1.2. Could it be that the operator fell asleep? Either this device has been in use for too long and needs to be discarded
Relying on luck is not advisable; using blind plates to block things is simply the result of relying on luck.
