Our company’s catalytic unit has been shut down; these past few days, steam has been released into the atmosphere from the distillation tower, resulting in a pungent odor in the area downstream of the catalytic unit. After being exposed to this odor for an extended period, it even causes headaches. May I ask if the steam tower of your catalytic unit also vents to the atmosphere? Are there any vapor towers without venting in catalytic shutdown? When distillation towers are shut down, they release vapors directly into the atmosphere, which indeed pollutes the environment; however, there is no effective solution yet.
What is contained in the vent medium of a catalytic distillation tower?
Letting things go is inevitable. However, to avoid environmental pollution and harm to health, all our vent gases are routed through pipelines into the underground pipeline network, then to an oily wastewater tank, from there to the wastewater stripping tower, and finally to the flare system. Of course, in the end, the underground pipeline network also needs to be purged with steam.

Well, we’re all the same in that regard; especially with the deodorization process at the end – the smell from the distillation tower is unbearable. After working there during distillation, our clothes get covered with that smell, and it won’t go away even after washing them. It’s really frustrating. There probably isn’t any other good way. In the end, it still has to be released into the atmosphere. However, if it can be placed in a large tank containing activated carbon or other adsorbents, or if a solution is used there to absorb and filter it first, then releasing it into the atmosphere might be better.
