Asphalt with a softening point of 60 degrees is transferred to a 40 m3 intermediate storage tank (outdoor) at 300 degrees, where it remains for 8 to 12 hours. I would like to ask: 1) Will heating with 370-degree heat transfer oil coils cause coking? 2) Will heating asphalt with a softening point of 120 or 180 degrees to 320–340 degrees using 370-degree heat transfer oil cause coking? 3) Will using 370-degree heat transfer oil for insulation of asphalt with a softening point of 260–280 degrees cause coking?
As long as it is drained completely each time, coking will not occur
It mainly depends on the extraction temperature of the asphalt, or the inlet temperature of the asphalt into the heat exchanger; if it is above 370 degrees, crystallization should start, and in such cases it’s necessary to use heat transfer oil with a higher operating temperature. What the original poster is asking about is whether asphalt will coking. Based on my many years of practical experience, asphalt does not coke at 370 degrees.
What kind of heat transfer oil can reach 370 degrees? If the heat transfer oil reaches 370 degrees, I estimate that it will coking.
