The new catalytic cracking process MIP for sulfur and olefin reduction that produces a variety of isomeric olefins. The concept of this process is to create two reaction zones for cracking and conversion, which provide favorable conditions for the hydrogen transfer reaction; as a result, the olefin content in gasoline is reduced while the product distribution is improved, overcoming the problem of decreased yield of light oils in the MGD process. After being modified using the MIP process, the olefin content in gasoline from catalytic cracking can be reduced by 8–15 percentage points or even more (for example, the olefin content in FCC gasoline from Takahashi Petrochemical dropped from 47% to around 20%). At the same time, the sulfur content in gasoline can be reduced by about 15%, and its octane rating does not decrease. However, the problem is that this process reduces the cetane number of catalyzed diesel (from 34 to 28 at Takahashi Petrochemical).
