After operating for a period of time, a two-stage centrifugal pump (with a flow rate of around 36 cubic meters) begins to vibrate. Upon inspection, it was found that (due to unstable liquid flow during operation) the clearance between the outer radial thrust bearings had increased. The clearances between the front and rear bearing caps and the outer rings of the bearings were each 0.5 mm. What could be the reason for this?

1: Is the pipeline configuration inappropriate? Is the allowable suction height too high? 2: Is there a problem with the balance disc? This could cause excessive axial movement. 3: Is the impeller aligned with the centerline of the flow channel?
The vibration is likely caused by impeller cavitation; it may have nothing to do with the bearing gland clearance, so we need to look for other causes.
