It’s said to be a job involving high temperatures and pressures, and it’s also a dangerous industry. So I wonder, have any of you experienced any major accidents there, incidents that caused significant property damage and casualties?/
The petrochemical industry involves high-risk operations, but they aren’t as terrifying as one might think. As long as procedures are followed and the key aspects are understood, major problems won’t occur. Take H2S for example: there are portable detectors, fixed detectors, and positive-pressure respirators. The operating pressure in catalytic cracking units is only 200–300 kPa, with temperatures reaching at most 700 degrees; in a few cases, it goes up to 800–900 degrees, which is still not considered high temperature or pressure. With proper management, such units are equipped with self-protection systems, making them refineries with a very high level of safety.
An industry that is not only characterized by high temperatures and pressures but is also toxic and harmful to the body! Many people disapprove of doing such work for a long time. Even if nothing goes wrong, one will definitely end up being a complete country bumpkin until old age :P
