There seem to be quite a number of wastewater treatment processes for pig farms. Some use a combination of filtration, sedimentation and adjustment, anaerobic tanks, contact oxidation, and oxidation ponds; others employ a process that involves screen filtration, acidification for slag removal, secondary anaerobic treatment, and SBR aeration. There are also approaches that take advantage of the integration of livestock farming and crop cultivation, using biogas digesters for treatment and then utilizing the biogas slurry as fertilizer for fruit trees. However, such methods have not been tested yet, so it is impossible to determine which process is most effective. The most environmentally friendly approach is to use waste pig wastewater as fertilizer to irrigate crops, allowing the crops to break down and absorb the pollutants; this is also the best method employed by nature over millions of years to break down and eliminate animal waste and urine through a natural recycling process. If treated manually, it is generally not possible to meet the first-level emission standards, and in most cases even the second-level standards cannot be satisfied; this is why an oxidation pond is needed as a follow-up treatment step. It’s not a problem related to treatment technology, but rather the cost of treatment. Additionally, treating pig farming wastewater is indeed quite challenging, and at present there are no better methods that involve lower costs. Therefore, multiple treatment stages and various approaches need to be employed in this regard.
