The wall of the freezer compartment in my home refrigerator is always covered with thick ice, which often ruins the vegetables. After putting a lot of effort into removing that layer of ice, it froze over again within two days. I don’t know why? Moreover, the refrigerator runs around the clock and rarely shuts down on its own to rest. Could someone tell me if the refrigerator needs to be discarded? Or is there any solution? Thank you! What brand of refrigerator is it? Is it a setting issue?
It might be a problem with the thermostat settings, namely the knob marked 1–5 or 7 in the refrigerator compartment. During adjustment, the person faces the knob dial; rotating it clockwise lowers the set temperature inside the refrigerator, causing the cooling capacity to increase gradually. Conversely, if the set temperature inside the refrigerator increases, and the indoor temperature is high, the thermostat knob should be turned counterclockwise to around position 3 or 2 on the knob dial, in order to prevent the set temperature from being too low and causing the compressor to run for an extended period of time. If the problem still isn’t resolved, the thermostat might be broken; replace it.
There are two reasons: one is that the thermostat is broken and cannot shut down the system, and the other is that there is a low pressure due to a leak! The first one can be done by oneself, while the second one requires special tools
There is a leak in the pipes inside the compressor; have a professional fix it, otherwise it will cost you a lot of unnecessary electricity bills.
Answer: Under normal conditions, the evaporator in the refrigerator’s freezer compartment forms a thin layer of frost during operation; when the refrigerator is turned off, the meltwater from this frost is discharged through the water outlet. If the frost layer is too thick or the shutdown time is insufficient, the frost does not completely melt after the refrigerator is turned off, and ice will form upon the next start-up. In such cases, lowering the thermostat setting is likely to solve the problem; if that doesn’t work, you can contact a repair service for on-site inspection.
