There is a very interesting phenomenon in our company: during major repairs of motors, the mechanics disassemble them and take them to the electricians for repair; after they are fixed, the mechanics retrieve them and reinstall them. The electricians then connect the wires and test for forward and reverse rotation, while the mechanics and the technical staff verify everything. Larger motors come with fans; the fitter disassembles them, while the electrician replaces the bearings. Our small motors are repaired by the electrical maintenance team; after repair, they’re just thrown there for the fitters to align them. Sometimes the shims can’t be found, or they get scattered around, or end up in a mess like rabbit fur, or they’re not even inserted and instead hidden under the workbench. Sometimes the coupling screws go missing as well, resulting in poor alignment – it’s impossible to work effectively when different departments are involved. Large motors, those equipped with bearing shells and those operating at 6000 volts, are repaired by fitters; the fitters remove the core components. Electricians are responsible only for removing dust and conducting inspections, after which the fitters reinstall the components and ensure they are properly aligned. Once, the fan blades of a large electrical motor (12 tons) came loose, and they said it couldn’t be repaired internally and had to be outsourced. As a result, the fitter was busy disassembling and reassembling it, as well as adjusting its alignment and air gap.
