Yesterday I came across a term called \"four mechanical seals\", used on rotary vane blowers. I don’t know what it means; I only know about single-face mechanical seals and double-face mechanical seals. Ask a question?
I’m wondering if it means that the Roots blower requires four sets of mechanical seals?
Oh, in the case of four sets, how is that used? Is it necessary to use four sets? Aren’t two sets enough? I don’t quite understand.

The L-type Roots blower uses a labyrinth seal for transporting air, while a packing seal is used for transporting water gas and sulfur dioxide. For other series such as the RR type, it’s not clear

Maybe the original poster didn’t read carefully; by looking at the entire article, it might be easier to understand. I’ve never heard of “four mechanical seals”; it probably means: “The fourth item, mechanical seal””
It can’t be a scam, right? I really don’t know if there are four mechanical seals available now, or maybe some other high-tech devices. Even for high-tech and high-performance sealing requirements, I don’t think they are necessary for rotary vane pumps, unless they are used in highly dangerous situations involving highly toxic substances where extremely strict sealing standards are required.

The situation is as follows: the company needs to purchase a Roots blower, with a medium of 90% ammonia, a pressure rise of 90 KPA (from 150 KPA to 240 KPA), and a flow rate of 4–6 cubic meters per minute. The blower must be explosion-proof and leak-proof. Then there was a company that provided one marked with four mechanical seals. I think with the parameters I requested, dual mechanical seals should be sufficient, right? :)

The medium contains ammonia, so explosion and leakage prevention are necessary; therefore, mechanical seals in series may be used, which requires four sets. Of course, double-end face seals may be more commonly used. A dry gas seal can also be used.
Such devices generally use expansion ring seals and labyrinth seals; I have never heard of this type of seal
The Roots blowers manufactured in Changsha by me here are of the dual-rotor type, use expansion ring seals, and there are a total of four sets.
