What is the function of a compressor unloader?

Our company uses Delaiselan reciprocating hydrogen compressors (the machines have not yet arrived at the site). The unloading valves are available in five settings: 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100. However, I am not very familiar with the principle and structure of these unloading valves, so I would like to seek advice from those who are more knowledgeable on this topic. Thank you
