I would like to ask fellow sailors: Many centrifugal pumps are equipped with a minimum return line, and this line has a flow-limiting orifice plate. May I ask how the dimensions of this orifice plate are determined (i.e., its diameter and thickness)? If it is related to traffic, then what condition does this traffic refer to? Throttle orifice plates serve for pressure limitation and flow limitation. There is a specification for flow-limiting orifice plates, which provides detailed information on them. If throttling is applied, the flow rate is the one during production. Why leave the orifice plate first?
The orifice plate can be calculated based on 30% of the pump’s rated flow rate. There are many software tools available online for calculating orifice plates (it seems to be called CP36C1), and standards can also be downloaded. As for the wall thickness of the plate, I’m not sure which discipline is responsible for calculating it; the standards do not specify how to calculate the wall thickness, and the equipment engineering team does not handle such calculations. When we asked our pipeline installation experts, they weren’t very sure either. I searched online, and many people recommended measuring the thickness based on the blind plate.
I’m not too familiar with it, but I think as long as the thickness is sufficient to withstand pressure without deforming, the pore size is what really matters
Which standard is used for calculating current limiting? Please clarify, someone above.
It is calculated based on the minimum flow rate specified in the pump’s design; once the flow rate drops below this value, the pump cannot operate properly
