What is the function of the liquid seal device at the bottom of a packed absorption tower?
The function of a liquid seal is generally to stabilize the gas pressure inside the column.
Maintain a certain amount of liquid at the bottom of the absorption tower to prevent the gas from flowing through empty space.
A liquid seal refers to the use of a liquid to create a seal. General liquid seals are suitable for situations where the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the area to be sealed is not very large (such as in laboratories where oxygen is produced from hydrogen peroxide), as well as in places where high sealing standards are required or where it is not convenient to install valves. The medium used for liquid sealing is generally required not to react with the gas being sealed, and water or oil is commonly used. There are also examples of liquid seals in everyday life; you can take a look – in the kitchens or bathrooms of your home, there is usually a pipe that makes an S-shaped bend below the sink, and this too is a type of liquid seal that prevents odors from escaping from the sewer system.
