Both the outlet valves of the two high-pressure water pumps in our system are leaking internally. When one pump starts operating, the outlet pressure of the other pump rises to over 30 MP. Each time, we have to wait until that pump stops before opening the outlet valve of the other pump to relieve the pressure. The person in charge of the system says that there’s no problem with this approach, but I think it could be dangerous if the check valves fail to function properly. What do you all think?
If there is internal leakage in the outlet valve, it should be addressed promptly; otherwise, problems are likely to arise over time!

The internal leakage of the outlet valve won’t be severe; just make sure to open the inlet valve regularly. The outlet valve has internal leakage; the pressure-bearing surfaces are a check valve and a check valve flange. There has been no significant change in the design pressure of the check valve. At the same time, if the check valve no longer functions properly and the inlet valve is open, at most the pump will reverse direction. That would require a larger amount. In our coking unit, there was a leak in the control valve used for coke removal at the top of one of the coke towers; as a result, coke was removed from one tower while fluid continued to flow in the other. Fortunately, the leakage was not severe.

The pump outlet valve should be replaced promptly; otherwise, the standby pump may reverse under high pressure at the outlet, causing the impeller to loosen and rendering it unusable as a backup.
