PROII simulation of air separation distillation column problem: My air separation distillation column consists of two sections, a low-pressure column and a high-pressure column. The energy from the condenser of the high-pressure tower is used as heat for the reboiler of the low-pressure tower. But in my PROII model, when my high-pressure column produces the so-called bottom and top products (including flow rates, temperatures, and compositions), the energy available in the condenser is not sufficient to enable the low-pressure column to obtain the desired flow rates and compositions for both its top and bottom products; in other words, there is an energy imbalance. What is the reason? Has anyone experienced simulating air separation? I’ve looked at the cases included in PROII, but they weren’t very helpful to me. It specifies the oxygen content of the product in the Performance settings, and I did the same thing, but the simulation wouldn’t converge no matter what. This issue is likely mainly due to an imbalance in the system’s cooling capacity; you can try adjusting the amount of expansion air in the system as well as the degree of throttling of the flow of material from the lower tower to the upper tower. It’s best to adjust it manually, step by step, as convergence is already difficult.
