Fiberglass is a non-metallic material formed by curing reinforcing materials and resin; it features low weight and high strength, with a specific strength that is even higher than that of high-strength alloy steels. Common reinforcement materials for fiberglass-reinforced plastics include glass fiber and carbon fiber, while common resins include unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, phenolic resin, furan resin, etc. PVC/FRP equipment reinforced with fiberglass can significantly improve the pressure resistance of the equipment and expand its temperature range of operation (the maximum operating temperature increases from 60°C to 80°C). With the development of new types of corrosion-resistant resins, fully FRP equipment with corrosion-resistant fiberglass-reinforced plastic as the lining layer has also been widely used to replace towers made of precious metals such as titanium. This reduces the cost of such equipment significantly and addresses the issue of short service life for these towers. Glass fiber reinforcement also makes it possible to scale up non-metallic equipment; there are already applications of DN3000 mm towers in chlorine washing and drying systems.
