On March 30, reporters learned from China Coal Group that the company has recently signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with ** in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, marking a new stage in their cooperation. Under the agreement, the two parties will carry out comprehensive cooperation in areas such as the exploration and development of large-scale coal projects, the construction of coal-fired power and coal chemical industry projects, coal mine construction and services, as well as the development and utilization of coalbed methane. Specifically, over the next five years, China National Coal Group will invest more than 100 billion yuan in Xinjiang to build large-scale coal development projects and industrial parks in areas rich in coal resources there, such as Tuha, Zhundong, and Ili. A commercial coal industry base will be established in the Tuha region, while coal power and coal chemical industry bases will be developed in Zhundong and Ili, with an annual output value of over 30 billion yuan. To ensure the achievement of the cooperation goals, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region will allocate appropriate coal resources to China National Coal Group’s investment projects in Xinjiang. According to journalists, with the establishment of large enterprises and groups, improvements in railway transportation conditions, and ongoing exploration of coal resources, the Hami region in Xinjiang has now become an important resource development area for China’s strategy of transporting coal from the west to the east. It is set to become a coal production base capable of producing 100 million tons of coal per year. It is reported that, in accordance with the relevant development plans for the coal industry in the Hami region of Xinjiang, before the completion and operation of the dedicated railway line for transporting coal from the west to the east in 2013, the planned coal production capacity in Hami was set at 197 million tons per year; this figure was expected to reach 300 million tons per year by 2015, and 500 million tons per year by 2020.
