I would like to ask the experts: In our laboratory, after carrying out the pre-sulfidization process via hydrocracking of feedstocks such as VGO, we add TBA to the sulfided oil and proceed with further sulfidization. Does TBA have a passivation effect? What are the specific principles and reaction mechanisms behind this?

I think it acts as a passivator, because TBA contains hydroxyl groups; this weak acid can neutralize the acid sites on the hydrocracking catalyst, thereby suppressing the excessively high initial activity of the catalyst.
