Our factory produces PVC using the calcium carbide-acetylene method. The pH value of the acetylene gas in the neutralization tower at the acetylene station is neutral, but it becomes acidic before reaching the conversion process. What could be the reason for this?
Hydrogen chloride from the hydrogen chloride pipeline has flowed into the acetylene main pipe; an anti-corrosion tank should be installed at the acetylene main pipe, similar to a water seal. Or raise the acetylene gas main above that of hydrogen chloride.

The circulation rate of the alkaline solution in the neutralization tower is too low, or the gas flow velocity in the tower is too high; as a result, the acidic droplets carried in the gas do not react completely. However, due to the presence of the alkaline solution, the pH value after the neutralization tower is neutral or alkaline.
Clarify the issue; explain in more detail the process from neutralization to transformation – analyze each situation on its own
Sampling analysis shows that it is hydrochloric acid, in other words hydrogen chloride; otherwise, the cleaning is not thorough enough
After exiting the neutralization tower, the fluid is cooled by a condenser before reaching the conversion mixer; there are no other devices in between. The wastewater from the condenser is alkaline, but that from the stage prior to the conversion process is acidic
