Why is medium-pressure steam provided in the oxygen pipeline and slurry pipeline of a certain plant? What are its advantages and disadvantages?
Medium-pressure steam is provided for purging purposes. Use the high temperature and pressure of steam to remove any foreign objects or blockages that may be present in the pipes.
One more thing to add: degreasing of the oxygen pipeline before commissioning.
Blowing with medium-pressure steam when the pressure in the gasifier drops below 40 kilograms can prevent coking of the burners; this is part of the design used in older plants. However, it is not very effective in practice, so in recent designs, Texaco has eliminated the use of medium-pressure steam for this purpose
Accidents involving oxygen pipelines occur from time to time; therefore, the oxygen pipes must be purged after the system is shut down for maintenance.
