Has anyone here used the CUPTOWER software developed by China University of Petroleum? I heard it’s quite effective, and it’s compatible with ASPEN. Could those who have used it share their experiences?
I’ve heard of it for the first time; what functions does it have?
Regarding the design software for CUP-TOWER towers, CUP-TOWER is a comprehensive hydraulic calculation software for towers developed by the Separation Research Center of China University of Petroleum (Huadong). It can be used to perform hydraulic calculations for various types of tower internals, including floating valves, sieve plates, bubble trays, inclined nozzles, three-dimensional mass transfer devices, overflow-free systems, guided floating valves, vertical sieve plates, cyclone plates, three-dimensional jet trays, extraction towers, as well as various types of random and structured packing. It possesses functions for design and analysis. During the design of this software, it is possible to determine various parameters related to the tray structure, such as the tower diameter, tray spacing, area and type of downcomers, open area ratio, and the number of overflow paths. Hydraulic data are calculated during the design and analysis process, and appropriate operation performance charts can be generated to help users analyze the performance of the trays or packing in an intuitive manner. CUP-TOWER calculation model: The software’s calculation models for various tower components represent the most up-to-date and robust mathematical models available to date. It incorporates the findings from numerous books, journals, and professional organizations. For the calculation of various hydraulic parameters, relatively rigorous mathematical models and strict numerical methods were used. Strict correction models were used for the selection of various factors. This revised model compiles the values of various factors from different books and journals into tables, making it convenient for us to choose from during design and verification. The advancement of CUP-TOWER: In terms of tower design and verification techniques, CUP-TOWER incorporates the research findings from numerous articles and books, along with its own algorithms. These research findings have been carefully selected and tested in practice, proving to be fairly accurate. Due to the insufficient theoretical research on some tower internals, and the technical processing of industrial operation data being constrained by factors such as the producers’ technical capabilities, there are very limited calculation formulas, but a large number of charts. For experiments under the same conditions, the results vary greatly. CUP-TOWER combines the advantages and disadvantages of various existing algorithms, formulates the relevant equations, and constructs a complete numerical calculation model. Regarding the input/output characteristics and data input in CUP-TOWER: Since the process condition data are currently obtained through simulation software such as PROII and ASPEN, this software allows the results from PROII and ASPEN to be imported into it, thereby reducing data entry errors and improving work efficiency. Regarding result output: CUP-TOWER can export results to EXCEL and WORD, and generate Excel and WORD files. Generating Excel and Word files does not rely on MS Excel and MS Word, which facilitates the sharing of calculation results; opening these results only requires Excel, without the need for CUP-TOWER, and it also makes it easier to edit and modify the data results. I tried using it, and I found that many aspects of it aren’t very good: it’s not possible to import data directly from Aspen, and the program is not stable enough. . . . . A few people in the chemical industry who have managed to develop software to this level have done quite well; it’s worth encouraging them. It seems that the author of Cuptower has released another tutorial on Aspen Plus recently.
Hey, do you know how to import Aspen into Cuptower? It seems to only recognize Excel
I can’t import data into Aspen; only Excel is available. What’s going on?
