What are the differences in the applications of wafer-type butterfly valves and flanged butterfly valves?
During use, flanged types can have blind plates added in special cases, but there’s no solution for wafer-type connections. Clamped mating flanges are welded together; they cannot be assembled using socket welding.
The commonly used butterfly valves are wafer-type butterfly valves and flanged butterfly valves. Wafer-type butterfly valves are connected between the flanges of two pipes using double-headed bolts; they are inexpensive, but their sealing performance is not as good as that of flanged butterfly valves. Flanged butterfly valves have flanges on them, and the flanges at both ends of the valve are connected to the pipe flanges using bolts. These valves are more expensive, but their sealing performance is better than that of wafer-type butterfly valves
Wafer-type butterfly valves save space and should be used whenever piping space is limited
The butterfly valves connecting the storage tank should be of the flanged type, to ensure that the liquid inside the tank does not leak out during pipe disassembly and maintenance; wafer-type butterfly valves would fall off
The main difference between wafer-type butterfly valves and flanged butterfly valves is that wafer-type butterfly valves eliminate the need for a pair of flanges, which makes them cheaper; however, this makes it more difficult to disassemble and assemble them for maintenance purposes. Wherever possible, wafer-type butterfly valves should be preferred.
