On October 19, 2008, the HT-L pulverized coal pressurized gasification furnace demonstration unit, known as China’s \"first aerospace furnace,\" was successfully commissioned after its first feeding attempt at the Puyang Longyu facility of Yongmei Group. This was China’s first set of equipment featuring independent intellectual property rights. The space furnace demonstration unit was designed and manufactured by the China Academy of Space Technology; it is a coal gasification system based on proprietary Chinese technology, and constitutes the core component of Puyang Longyu Chemical’s 200,000-ton/year methanol production capacity expansion project. Compared with similar international facilities such as Shell and Texaco, it has three advantages: first, it requires less investment, saving one-third compared to facilities of the same scale ; Second, the construction period is short, being one-third shorter than that of Shell boilers ; Third, the operation procedure is simple, suitable for the actual conditions of China’s coal chemical industry, and easy to implement on a large scale.
The performance of space furnaces is not very good; compared to well-known vaporization furnaces used internationally, their application is still limited, and the potential for their use seems quite restricted. Currently, large-scale coal chemical plants in China mostly use high-quality vaporizers from international manufacturers, such as Shell and Texaco
