I have a question I’d like to ask. We here want to produce ammonia (a purity of 10% is sufficient; high purity isn’t required), and we intend to use ammonium carbonate as the raw material. I would like to ask if it is feasible. If it is feasible, what kind of equipment can be used, and what are the technical challenges?
Producing ammonia (in water) from ammonium carbonate is not feasible. Ammonium carbonate is a processed product of ammonia, and the reverse process is not advisable ; From a process perspective, if the demand is not very high, the most economical approach is to purchase ammonia water, which is a by-product of ammonia synthesis plants. Ammonia water is not considered a true chemical hazard, and the requirements for its production management are not very strict ; When demand is high, liquid ammonia should be used to produce ammonia water; this process is well-established and easy to manage.
Personally, I believe that it is technically feasible to produce ammonia water using ammonium carbonate. Ammonium bicarbonate can be used to react with a base in a reactor. The ammonia gas produced by the reaction can be absorbed by the soft water. However, the economic viability of this process route is unknown.

Relatively speaking, the price of dilute ammonia solution is even lower.
