Does obtaining a Certified Safety Engineer certificate by passing the Certified Safety Engineer exam mean one is already a Certified Safety Engineer?

Passing the Certified Safety Engineer examination only indicates that the candidate has the capability to perform safety-related tasks; to truly become a certified safety engineer, the candidate must find an employer. In other words, if no organization is willing to hire the candidate, then that candidate is not a certified safety engineer. Moreover, even if hired, one can only be considered a registered safety engineer at XXX company. Of course, it is necessary to register with the provincial safety supervision and management department where the employer is located.

Theoretically, by passing the Certified Safety Engineer exam and obtaining the corresponding certificate, one becomes a certified safety engineer; however, if registration is not completed, the certificate becomes invalid after 2 years.

According to Article 3 of the **Regulations on the Management of Registered Safety Engineers issued by the State Administration for Work Safety, a registered safety engineer as referred to in these regulations is a person who has obtained the Practice Qualification Certificate for Registered Safety Engineers of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the qualification certificate), who works in production and operation units in charge of work safety management or safety technology tasks, or who works in work safety intermediary agencies providing professional services in this field. Such a person also obtains a Practice Certificate for Registered Safety Engineers of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as the practice certificate) as well as a practice seal in accordance with these regulations. Article 7: Persons who have obtained the qualification certificate may practice in the capacity of a registered safety engineer only after registering for a practice license and a practice seal. (1) Any citizen of the People’s Republic of China who complies with **laws and regulations and meets one of the following conditions may apply to take the Certified Safety Engineer professional qualification exam: 1. Having obtained a secondary vocational education degree in safety engineering or engineering economics, and having worked in safety-related fields for at least 7 years； Or hold an equivalent secondary vocational diploma in another field, with 9 years of experience in work related to safe production. 2. Hold an associate degree in safety engineering or engineering economics, and have at least 5 years of experience in work related to safe production ； Or hold an associate degree from another specialized university, with at least 7 years of experience in work related to safe production. 3. Hold a bachelor’s degree in safety engineering or engineering economics, and have at least 3 years of experience in work related to safe production ； Or hold a bachelor’s degree from another specialized university, with at least 5 years of experience in work related to safe production. 4.
