Moreover, its chelating capacity is greatly affected by pH value; it is generally suitable only as a chelating agent under alkaline conditions, which limits its applications. It is usually used only for chelating calcium and magnesium ions, and thus is often employed as a water softener. Organic chelating agents include carboxylic acid types and organic polyphosphonic acids, etc. Carboxylic acid-type chelating agents mainly include aminocarboxylic acids and hydroxycarboxylic acids, etc.
