Raw materials with a high sulfur content, especially sulfur with a low burning point, work well
Diesel is a better choice; generally, 10# diesel is used. The same type of diesel can be employed in both the boiling furnace and the preheater. For slag removal, a cold slag remover together with a wetting drum is suitable for the coarser slag, and conveyor belts work well for transporting it. As for the finer ash produced by the electrostatic precipitator, it can be transported using a silo pump and compressed air
Our company operates sulfuric acid production plants using pyrite, with capacities of 60,000 tons per year and 120,000 tons per year. To start up the boiling furnaces, it is common to lay a layer of prepared base material first, use a small amount of wood, and then add some sulfur as fuel for ignition; this method yields good results and is easy to operate and control.
Our boiling furnace uses diesel to heat up and start operation
400,000 tons per year of sulfuric acid production from pyrite; gas is introduced into the furnace at three points. Corn stalks and wood are used to heat the furnace layer below the ignition bed. After the temperature reaches 200 degrees, diesel is sprayed from above the furnace bed using two oil nozzles – roughly less than 3 tons of diesel are sufficient to reach 400 degrees. Sulfur is added below the gas-driven fan. Half an hour later, turn over the mineral powder under the furnace bed.

Electric heating is easy to control, while natural gas is not. Previously, wood and diesel were used to start up the boiling furnace; I’m not sure now
The boiling furnace uses diesel for heating; when the temperature in the upper layer of the boiling zone reaches 600 degrees, the fan at the bottom of the furnace is activated to induce gentle boiling. The amount of diesel used as well as the airflow from the fan at the bottom of the furnace are adjusted according to the furnace temperature.
