The smallest diameter plate tower we have ever made is DN500. As the poster said, it is so small that only packing or flange sections can be used. Every two tower plates are one section.

For distillation towers with small diameters, the separation efficiency of packed towers is higher than that of plate towers. In conventional design, the width of the downcomer is 10% of the tower diameter, so your downcomer is only 2 cm, so it cannot be used. Wait, there are a lot of factors why you can't use a plate tower. Moreover, if you have to use a plate tower, you can only increase the diameter, and use a micro float valve or a sieve plate tower. It is recommended to use packed tower.
The minimum effective flow length of a plate tower is usually more than 400MM. It makes no sense to use trays for such a small tower, even for experiments.
