Does anyone know whether the technologies for hydrogenating high-temperature coal tar and coal tar obtained from low-temperature carbonization are mature?
In China, there is still a lack of advanced processing techniques for low-temperature tar. At present, it is mainly used as fuel oil, but such utilization is far from sufficient. Due to the special composition of low-temperature tar, which contains large amounts of ash and water, processing it proves to be quite difficult. Currently, in China, hydrogenation of low-temperature coal tar is primarily used to produce components for blending into naphtha and diesel. In Shenmu, Shaanxi, there is a Tianyuan Chemical Plant equipped with a 500,000-ton capacity facility for hydrogenating coal tar.
