The rock wool installed in my high-temperature pipelines often starts to smoke on its own after it rains or absorbs too much steam condensation water. Could this cause a fire? Will the heat-insulating effect also have an impact? Is it the substandard quality of the rock wool, or is there an issue with the material selection?

It must be water vapor; if there was smoke as the original poster said, it would have burned up long ago. Of course, the insulation effect is also significantly reduced, as damp insulation material needs to absorb more heat in order to evaporate the water contained within it.

This problem is very common; it is mainly due to issues with the quality of the insulation material. Many anti-corrosion companies are using insulation materials of poor quality. Ways to identify such materials: 1. Check the color – the original insulation material is white, while that of poor quality is yellow. 2. Measure the surface temperature; a high surface temperature is not good. 3. Check the density; products of poor quality have low density.
The maximum operating temperature for rock wool is 600; isn’t the temperature inside the tube exceeding that limit?
Was the protective layer outside the insulation layer not properly installed? If this continues for a long time, it will affect heat retention and fruit setting; it’s time to replace it, otherwise energy will be wasted
In the refining industry, insulation materials represent a mature technology; therefore, the likelihood of quality issues is low. The main thing to consider is the quality of the external insulation; for example, the joints should be level and point downward. If smoking occurs at bends or welds, it cannot be taken lightly – it’s best to disassemble them for inspection.
If smoking occurs only after a rainstorm, it is likely due to a poor seal of the insulation layer, and it will not cause a fire.
