What are the visual differences between the impulse stages and reaction stages of a steam turbine, and how can they be identified?
There are significant differences in the blade shapes; the inlet and outlet areas of the blades in the impulse stage are the same, while the outlet area of the blades in the reaction stage varies considerably.
The airfoil shape and leading edge angle are different! The impeller blade profile is symmetrical, while the turbine blade profile is generally crescent-shaped and asymmetrical.
